I currently hold a B.S. in Childhood Education with a concentration in Spanish as well as, a M.S. in Special Education. As a result, I am also New York State certified in both areas. I completed both undergraduate and graduate programs a State University of New York at Oneonta which has distinguished itself as a prime education college.
Experience
As part of my higher education career, I have had the opportunity to tutor some of my college peers as well as to design and implement successful academic interventions in literacy, basic math, and student behavior. In classroom settings, I have worked with students in virtually all grades K-8, and I currently work as a substitute teacher in a grades K-12. As a teacher, and tutor alike, my methods are strongly rooted in evidence practices that not only engage students but also ensure their success. I strongly rely on the use of clear, concise rules and strategies, carefully faded scaffolds, and ample structured practice time which focuses on fluency and mastery of skills. I am also a huge fan of practice games where applicable because there is no reason that useful learning activities cannot also be engaging and fun! As an educator, I believe that it is my duty to meet the needs of all of my students. This can be as simple as reteaching vital prerequisite skills or as complex as building a student teacher relationship that supports safe risk-taking behavior in academic settings. But I am positive, that as long as student needs are being met, all students can and will learn!
